Flagship event marking the commencement of the activities under the project "Establishing of a New Border Cross Check Point (BCCP) Strumyani - Berovo (Klepalo)"

On 7th October 2024, in the town of Berovo, Republic of North Macedonia, the official event was held to mark the beginning of activities under the strategic project "Establishing of a New Border Cross Check Point (BCCP) Strumyani - Berovo (Klepalo)". The project is part of the Interreg VI-A IPA Program Bulgaria - North Macedonia, aimed at improving cross-border connectivity and economic cooperation between the two countries. 

Organized by the Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia, the event attracted representatives of key institutions, including the Ministry of Local Self-Government of North Macedonia, the mayors of Strumyani and Berovo municipalities, as well as media and other guests. 

Official welcomes were given by: Boban Nikolovski, Director of the Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia; Zlatko Perinski, Minister of Local Self-Government of North Macedonia and Toni Jakimovski, Head of the Joint Secretariat of the Interreg VI-A Program IPA Bulgaria - North Macedonia. 

Representatives of the two main project partners – the Customs Administration of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Blagoevgrad Regional Administration – provided up-to-date information on the progress of the project. They emphasized that the new border crossing will facilitate the movement of people and goods and stimulate economic cooperation in the region. 

After the official part, the participants visited the site of the future border crossing Strumyani - Berovo (Klepalo), where they got acquainted with the current infrastructure and future plans for the development of the site.
