Public consultations on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the strategic project "Establishing of a New Border Cross Check Point (BCCP) Strumyani - Berovo (Klepalo)" were held in the villages of Strumyani and Tsaparevo.
The investment proposal includes the construction of the Border Cross Check Point “Strumyani – Berovo”, together with the necessary access infrastructure, including Road III-1008 “Strumyani – BCCP Klepalo”.
The meetings were attended by representatives of the project beneficiary, experts involved in the preparation of the report, representatives of national and local authorities, competent institutions, residents of the two settlements and interested citizens. Among the official guests were the Regional Governor of Blagoevgrad District, Nikolay Kukolev, the Mayor of Strumyani Municipality Emil Iliev, the Director of Basin Directorate West Belomorski District – Blagoevgrad Stoyanka Manoleva, as well as representatives of the Regional Inspectorate of Environment and Water – Blagoevgrad, the Head of the Joint Secretariat Toni Jakimovski and other institutions.
During the public consultations, the main parameters of the investment proposal, the expected results of its implementation and the findings of the environmental studies were presented. The experts informed the participants about the assessment of the potential impacts on the main environmental components – air, water, soil and biodiversity – as well as the planned measures to prevent, reduce and control possible adverse impacts during the construction and operation phases.
The project is of key importance for improving transport connectivity and supporting the socio-economic development of the cross-border region between Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
